Walk and move again without hip pain.

The hip is a strong joint, but wear, sports or a fall can injure it. When it hurts to walk, sleep or stand up, it's worth checking early.

Why does my hip hurt?

The hip joins the femur to the pelvis and carries your weight with every step. When it's healthy it takes a lot of force to injure it; still, sports, running, overuse or falls can cause injuries. Over the years the cartilage also wears down and osteoarthritis appears.

These are the causes I see most often:

  • Hip osteoarthritis: deep pain in the groin or thigh, stiffness and difficulty walking.
  • Sports and overuse injuries: pain from repeated impact, overload or a bad movement.
  • Pain after a fall or blow: that doesn't ease and limits your activities.
  • Bursitis and tendinitis: inflammation around the joint.
Warning sign

If hip pain makes you limp, wakes you at night or doesn't improve within a few weeks, it's time for an assessment. An early diagnosis opens up more treatment options.

How we treat it

Not every hip needs surgery. I start by understanding your case with an exam and, if needed, X-rays or MRI. From there we choose the best path for you — from rehab and injections to surgery when it's well indicated.
